Maritim VHF
Maritim VHF er et internasjonalt system for kortdistanseradioforbindelse for skipsfarten på VHF-båndet.
Systemet gir mulighet for forbindelse med kystradiostasjonene og mulighet for å få satt opp telefonsamtaler til hele verden. Det er mulig å kalle opp skip og båter i nærheten og det er egne kanaler for oppkall til havnemyndigheter. I Norge er det avsatt egne lystbåtkanaler og fiskerikanaler. Det benyttes frekvensmodulasjon og vertikal polarisering. Med moderne utstyr kan samtalene settes opp automatisk.
Det er en felles kanalplan med spesielle funksjoner på flere kanaler. Kanalene, prosedyrene og regelverket ellers er satt opp av International Telecommunication Union, ITU, som er en organisasjon i FN-systemet med kontorer i Genève i Sveits.
I Norge styres dette systemet av Telenor Kystradio.
Kystradiostasjonene lytter på fjernstyrte basestasjoner som er utplasserte langs kysten, langs kanaler og vannveier i innlandet og på øyer og oljeinstallasjoner til havs. På grunn av rekkevidde på et mindre antall nautiske mil er kystradiostasjonene vanligvis ikke tilgjengelige med dette systemet på åpent hav. Det er ofte nyttig å kontakte andre skip i nærheten over maritim VHF også på åpent hav. Til dette har radioene vanligvis mulighet for å sende med redusert effekt.
